Meet the experienced and friendly doctors and staff who make AccuVision EyeCare Optometry a proud provider of vision care products and services in Livermore.


Both Drs. Joy and John Michelsen

Both Drs. Joy and John Michelsen met in optometry school and have been happily married since 2009. They both have volunteered in optometric missions to provide eye care services to those in need. Locations include Chile, Thailand, and Palau. As a couple, they enjoy camping, biking, indoor rock climbing, cooking and traveling. They are excited to provide you with excellent eye care at AccuVision EyeCare Optometry.


Dr. Joy Michelsen

Dr. Joy received her doctorate in optometry from University of California – Berkeley Optometry School in 2006. She has been practicing in multiple optometric settings, including ophthalmology, general optometry, and refractive surgery. She has experience in LASIK and Cataract co-management. Working part time at Simon Vision Institute allows her to stay up to date in technology in regards to refractive surgery options. She also enjoys contact lens fittings, dry eye therapy, and helping patients choose the right frame for their glasses.


Dr. John Michelsen

Dr. John received his doctorate in optometry from University of California – Berkeley Optometry School in 2008. He then proceeded to complete a residency program in ocular pathology at the Fresno VA Hospital. As a resident, he learned how to manage and treat severe eye diseases, such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and much more. He is also licensed to treat glaucoma and manage diabetic retinopathy.
